Accepted abstracts will be broadcast live and simultaneously translated into several languages during the congress.

What is the current relevance of DAO deficiency?

For more than 20 years, DAO deficiency has been of great interest to the scientific, medical, pharmaceutical and nutritional communities, as well as the pharmaceutical and food industries, as evidenced by the increasing number of publications each year on this widespread metabolic disorder. It is estimated to affect 15% of the world’s population. Diseases caused by DAO deficiency include neurological conditions such as migraine, gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel disease, dermatological conditions such as dermatitis, dry skin and atopy, psychiatric conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, and psychological conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of using the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO) in the dietary management of conditions associated with DAO deficiency. This has led the European Commission to classify the DAO enzyme as a novel food.

This fruitful field of research, regulation and application of the enzyme diamine oxidase deficiency justifies the need to extend the knowledge of this metabolic disorder in the scientific, medical, pharmaceutical and nutritional communities, as well as its applications in the pharmaceutical and food industries, in order to improve the care of patients suffering from DAO deficiency. These are the objectives of the International Congress on DAO Deficiency, which DR Healthcare promotes every year.
